Bower Family Chronicle

Gerald Bernell Bower, 83, died on February 16, 2022 in Des Moines, IA. Memorial Services will be at 10:30 AM on April 9, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center.  Gerald was born to Donald Bernell and Minnie Ellen (Campbell) Bower on November 4, 1938. On January 31, 1959, Gerald was united in marriage to Janice Smith in Muscatine, IA. Two children were born to this union, Pam and Mark. In the fall of 1961, Janice realized her personal need and accepted Jesus as her Savior. A few months later, while living in Maquoketa, IA, Gerald arrived home from work to find the pastor waiting for him. He always said, he knew he was in trouble then! That day, Gerald heard how much Jesus loves him and he willingly accepted God's free gift of salvation.  Gerald and Janice worked side by side most of their lives. In 1968, the couple purchased the newspaper in Loup City, NE. They moved to Clarinda, IA in 1972, where they owned the True Value Hardware Store. In 1979, they purchased the Quic
